Candidates announced for fifth district court vacancy

SALT LAKE CITY (May 25, 2023) — The Fifth District Judiciary Nominating Commission has selected candidates for the vacant position in the Fifth District Court. This position stems from the retirement of Judge G. Michael Westfall effective August 31, 2023.

The candidates for the vacancy are: Ryan Christiansen, attorney/section manager, Utah Attorney General’s Office; Von Christiansen, county attorney, Beaver County; Eric Gentry, Assistant County Attorney, Washington County Attorney’s Office; Susan Hunt, practice instructor, Utah Tech University; Nicholas Mills, Kaysville City Attorney.

Written comments may be submitted to the Fifth District Judiciary Nominating Committee at judicialvacancies@utah.gov o Juvenile and Criminal Justice Commission, PO Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is noon on June 9, 2023. The Nominating Committee may request additional information or conduct an investigation of the candidates after reviewing the public comments. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Governor Spencer J. Cox, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Governor Cox’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
