Candidates announced for third district court vacancy

SALT LAKE CITY (May 19, 2023) — The Third District Judicial Appointments Commission has selected candidates for a vacant position in the Third District courthouse. This position stems from Judge Amy Oliver’s confirmation in the Utah Court of Appeals on February 17, 2023.

The candidates for the vacancy are: Deborah Chandler, Partner/President, Anderson & Karrenberg; Darcy Goddard, shareholder, Strong & Hanni, PC; Sandi Johnson, Deputy Chief/Deputy County Attorney, Utah County Attorney’s Office; Todd Olsen, Senior Deputy District Attorney, Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office; Charles Stormont, Director of Right of Way and Property Management, Utah Department of Transportation.

Written comments may be submitted to the Third District Judicial Nominating Committee at

judicialvacancies@utah.gov o Juvenile and Criminal Justice Commission, PO Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is noon on May 29, 2023. The Nominating Committee may request additional information or conduct an investigation of the candidates after reviewing the public comments. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Governor Spencer J. Cox, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Governor Cox’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
