Governor Cox appoints Eric Gentry in Fifth District Court

SALT LAKE CITY (July 12, 2023) – Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox has appointed Eric Gentry to the Fifth District Court, replacing outgoing Judge Michael Westfall. Gentry’s nomination requires confirmation by the Utah Senate.

« I appreciate Eric’s willingness to serve our great state in this new capacity, » Governor Cox said. « His years of experience will be a tremendous asset as he takes on the responsibilities of this role and I am confident he will enforce the law fairly. »

Gentry is a longtime prosecutor and currently serves as the Washington County Assistant Attorney, where he has been since 2007. He is currently assigned to the Special Victims Prosecution Team, where he handles a caseload that consists solely of murder, child and adult sex offenders, serious physical abuse, and other high-profile cases. Prior to this role, he served as an attorney for the City of Santa Clara, the City of Enterprise and was Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. George. Gentry was also a partner in Snow, Jensen & Reese and a partner in Christopherson, Farris, White & Utley, both in St. George.

« I am humbled and humbled to be nominated by Governor Cox to Fifth District Court, » Gentry said. “I am especially grateful for the opportunity to serve in the communities of my family’s heritage and home. If confirmed, I pledge to the people of Southern Utah to diligently fulfill the responsibilities and duties of my appointment and to apply the law fairly, impartially and respectfully. »

Gentry graduated with honors in Elementary Education, Child Development/Special Education from Southern Utah University and received his Juris Doctor from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University. As a husband and father of five, he enjoys playing and coaching sports, composing music, and enjoying recreation in Utah’s beautiful outdoors.
