Governor Cox signs the bill setting the 2023 election dates

SALT LAKE CITY (June 17, 2023) – Signature of Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox HB 2001, Election Amendments, Today. This bill, passed in an extraordinary session of the Legislature on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, makes provisions for a special election in the 2nd congressional district and municipal elections to be held in 2023.

« This new program ensures that Utahns will be represented in Congress with minimal disruption to our electoral system, » Governor Cox said. « We thank our municipalities and county employees for accommodating these changes, and we encourage all eligible Utah residents to register to vote and participate in our election this year. »

« We care deeply for the people of Utah in the 2nd congressional district, and they deserve a voice in Congress, » said Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, Utah’s election manager. “This timeline is our best option, balancing urgency with election safety and accuracy. I am confident in both our process and the people.”

Under this new schedule, primary elections will be held on September 5, 2023, and general elections will be held on November 21, 2023.
